The organization officially announces additions and expansions to staff roles as it gears up to fight for government accountability in 2024

Olympia, Washington — JANUARY 30, 2024 The Citizen Action Defense Fund (CADF) had a banner year in 2023, winning a public records lawsuit against the governor, representing a whistleblower, submitting several amicus briefs to the U.S. Supreme Court, filing suit against the City of Seattle on behalf of media personality Brandi Kruse, and so much more. CADF is well-established as an organization that serves as a champion for hope and accountability in Washington state.

To accomplish all that it has, CADF has built and expanded their stellar team, all of whom are devoted to fighting for your rights against Washington state bureaucrats.

Leading the charge is Executive Director Jackson Maynard, who joined CADF on a part-time basis in 2022 while serving as General Counsel at the Building Industry Association of Washington. He has practiced law in the public and private sectors for over 20 years, is a former prosecutor, and worked as a staff attorney to the Washington State Senate. As of October 1, 2023, Jackson has taken on the Executive Director and Counsel role here at CADF in a more full-time capacity.

On November 1st, Sam Spiegelman joined CADF as Associate Counsel. Sam is an expert on constitutional law who has litigated cases before local, state, and federal courts – including the United States Supreme Court. He previously worked at the Pacific Legal Foundation and received his law degree at the University of Virginia School of Law.

Paige Jaramillo joined the CADF team in February 2022 on a part-time basis as the paralegal and office manager, and as of October 1, 2023, has taken on the role in a more full-time capacity. She started her career in sales and has worked in the legal industry for five years. She received her BA in Mass Communication and Media Studies from Arizona State University and on top of her legal and operations duties, she handles communication for CADF.

“With this team in place, there is no doubt that 2024 will be yet another successful year,” said Jackson Maynard. “I am extremely happy with the passion, work ethic, and creative thinking that is exhibited by our staff. We are each incredibly passionate about advocating for all Washingtonians, and while we’ve seen a lot of success so far, there are plenty of battles left to fight.”
